The Watch – this Rotary pocket watch was supplied in a sturdy matt black cardboard case, with a soft touch cream interior. The watch was protected with a piece of foam, and covered with peel off plastic discs to protect the front and back glass. The supplied instructions would be the only let down as they are too generic, and not relevant to this watch, however there isn’t much to know (anti clockwise to wind and pull out to set time). The spring seems to last about 48 hours before it needs winding – this was more time than I was expecting. The supplied chain is of good design and quality. Remember that you will need to have any Rotary watch serviced every 3 years to keep the Lifetime Guarantee valid. If you are after a night time watch this one may not be for you as the hands are not illuminated, they are also fairly thin so I would suggest not idea for anybody with poor vision. After 3 weeks use of this watch I am happy with my purchase and enjoy having a peak at the springs and cogs every now and then. The constant tick tick tick is bizarrely relaxing to me. One thing to note is that these watches are not made in Switzerland (I was aware of this and was not a problem). I didn’t watch a pocket watch that had covers, so if that is the case with you too I would recommend this one. Watchshop Service – After deciding I wanted a pocket watch and found the one I wanted, I had a look around the Internet for the best deal. The watchshop website certainly had the edge over its competitors, but this watch was slightly more. I submitted a Price Match request (which was simple to complete) on a Sunday, expecting to receive a reply around the middle of the next Monday. I was surprised and impressed to receive an email by 7.30am the next morning accepting the Price Match, in fact beating the price. Obviously from here I ordered, which again was a simple process. If you are buying for a gift there is an option to select a free gift bag, mine was an elegant matt black bag with the watchshop logo printed in glossy silver. At each stage of the order process I received an email notifying me of the current order progress. If you are likely to order more watches from watchshop I would suggest selecting the option to create an account as you will receive loyalty points and I expect optional email offers. I opted for the free Royal Mail Special Delivery which meant I received the watch before 1pm the next working day (Obviously this service is not provided by watchshop). After my order I was given the option to recommend a friend by sending a £5 off voucher, you will also receive one for yourself – this is valid for 6 months. I would highly recommend watchshop for your next purchase.

The watch is a good balance of classic and modern pocket watch design. I find the detailing and action very relaxing. The setting and winding of the watch all feels very smooth and the watch overall is very robust. I would like the band with the digits on to be a little thicker and perhaps white, as its easy to lose the hands in the complex workings. However, this is a small point. You buy a watch like this to enjoy it's quality. Very happy with mine!

The Rotary pocket mechanical watch most valuable asset is undoubtedly its transparent front and back. Being able to see the intricate collaboration of gears and springs and dials is a joy not worth ignoring. It does however introduce a stark contrast between the detailed insides of the watch and the smooth outside. There is a visual disconnect between the gears and the casing that detracts from the sense of whole.

This is compounded somewhat by the utterly bad design of the box it came in. It doesn't manage to hold on to the watch at all, making it useless as a storage device.

All in all very happy with it though.

This is an unusual and attractive pocket watch which looks fantastic. The quality of the mechanism is first rate. The supplied chain is clever but not to the same standard as the watch itself.
