OK, so this watch was about 50% over my planned budget, and on top of that I wasn’t really in the market for an automatic. So why am I now the proud and happy owner of this Tissot PRC 200? Well for a start the style of this watch is incredible and exactly what I’d been looking for – it’s a perfect combination of precision engineered detail and smart dress, much nicer than the quartz equivalents in the same model range. However it still took me some research to convince myself to purchase, and so I thought I’d share what I learned along the way…

The watch has a perfectly flat front and back constructed of exceptionally scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass. I personally love the see-through back as this allows you to observe the automatic mechanism at work. The case is constructed of sturdy polished stainless steel with a chrome bezel although this bezel is quite susceptible to fine scratches you only really notice these if you’re looking for them in the right light. The case is also quite thick at 1.6 cm, but the lugs for the strap and detailing on the edges give it a streamlined appearance, and I think it has an excellent ‘presence’ on the wrist.

A brown leather strap complements the case and is secured with a quality bracelet style fastening. Like all leather products this does require a few days of wear to mould to your wrist and become comfortable. Alternatively the strap is easily replaced by one of your choice, being attached by standard retractable pins.

The watch is driven by a relatively low end 15-jewel automatic mechanism pioneered by the Swatch Group this particular mechanism is what has allowed Tissot to create such an affordable automatic piece, which might otherwise cost several thousand. Unlike traditional automatic mechanisms this one appears designed to be maintenance free, with the manual simply suggesting you have it inspected, rather than serviced, by a Tissot dealer every few years. Although originally not a fan of automatic movements, imagining them to be fragile and constantly needing wound up, this watch has changed my opinion. It appears exceptionally well made and robust – I’d be happy to do any job while wearing it, perhaps with the exception of hammering! On a full wind the watch is good to go for 2 days and of course while wearing it your movement automatically winds the mechanism too, so if you’re wearing the watch daily you’re unlikely to have it stop on you. As for accuracy this is superb for an automatic - after a week of running it has only gained 2 seconds. Although the chronograph buttons are relatively stiff to press, the mechanism is flawless and resets perfectly to zero every time, unlike many quartz based movements. Finally the case is waterproof with a rating of 20 bar/200 meters, with a screw-down crown that has a re-assuring bite as you finally tighten it

In summary if you like the style of this watch and enjoy a quality product then you won’t be disappointed I believe this will still be ticking away on my wrist in several years’ time...

This is my first premium watch and I have to say it doesnt disappoint.

I spent a lot of time searching for a watch for my 30th birthday and found this Tissot to be the right style and price for me. The fact it winds/powers off movement was the main draw as I wanted the extra money to pay for extra engineering. Also the fact the back of the watch is completely visible makes it even more beautiful and adds to the charm of this watch.

I wasnt sure it was able to wind and did wonder if it would be suitable for wearing on special occasions only. Thankfully it does, by winding the main dial on the side which gently clicks as you wind which is very satisfying. The manual says only a few winds should get it started and then wrist movement will keep it going. From only a days wear it worked for another 2-3 days whilst tucked back in the beautiful presentation box.

The strap gets a bit of getting used to but its worth it. The leather is thick and rather stiff but assume it will soften over time. The lack of a normal buckle should protect the leather for longer and is another interesting feature to show off.

In all a well made, beautifully engineered watch for a reasonable price. I hope to one day pass this to my son and it is for this reason I have to force myself to take it off for standard social events as I simply want to wear it all the time!

The service from Watchshop was first class. Watch arrived in no time and well packaged.
The Tissot watch is an extremely well made piece of Swiss time keeping. I have had it now for 10 days and it keeps exceptional good time and it keeps working for up to 80 hours when fully wound and off the wrist. I am very pleased with my purchase. I do however have a few items which a prospective purchaser may find useful. The watch is very thick. some. 16 mm front to back. I do not mind this as the design does go some way to breaking the depth up into bands. The strap is a bit mean in length. I have a normal mans wrist size I believe but I am on the last available holes on the strap and it looks poor. I am in the process of buying a new longer strap already as its proving to tight. I think this is poor for a mid quality watch.

That said it looks great and I would recommend it if you are looking for a reliable, quality, good time keeping automatic watch.

This watch is manufactured to a high standard and looks very nice from afar and up close. I have recently returned from my travels abroad, whilst there I received a small number of compliments regarding my recent purchase, mainly men complimenting me on my choice.
