Firstly before I get to the watch I should probably give a bit of background.
Ive been a watch collector all of my adult life, some 30 plus years now. In that time Ive owned circa 500 watches, from the most basic Casio to the exquisite beauty of a JDM Grand Seiko, a decade before the European relaunch of the Grand Seiko brand. Ive even been a guest at the Patek factory in Switzerland.
Across all the brands Ive owned Seiko is my thing, only a handful of watchmakers in the world actually construct the watch from beginning to end. Others use bracelet manufacturers, movement makers, casers and stick a brand on the finished product. Not seiko.
Now it had to be said they do make an awful lot of watch designs that you look at and think..... What the heck?! You do need to hunt out the best ones.
Which leads me on to this great watch. The design itself is simply stunning in the flesh, even my significant other liked it, and there arent many of those I can tell you!
The sub dials are extremely legible, caught in the right light you can see that these form the solar cell. In other lights they look jet black. The contrasting red hands are a stroke of design genius. As ever with Seiko the hands align perfectly with the markings, the large second hand sitting over the I of the seiko logo. Engineering is just awesome.
Buttons are positive and require only a gentle prod, sending the second hand ticking in an identical way to any auto chronograph Ive ever owned. Resetting the stopwatch has the hands smoothly retuning to the start position, much more pleasant than the mechanical flyback designs in my view.
Time keeping is superb, better than some high accuracy quartz Seikos Ive owned. First three weeks of ownership has the watch at plus half a second against my radio controlled reference clock. Very impressive indeed.
I would say that this is a large watch, the design is almost a watch case within an external holder. The strap is precurved to help it to sit nicely on your wrist. That said if your wrist is under 7 inches it may dominate your arm.
I love this watch, Ive sold every brand Ive owned at some point, but never a seiko and I will be keeping this one forever too ☺️
