This Hamilton is the very latest incarnation of the Khaki manual wind, and represents a little bit of military history for a comparatively small sum, considering what youre getting. It can boast a proven and enviable lineage, being a direct descendant of the military watches made by Hamilton during WWII and the subsequent and highly sought after Vietnam era watches. Hamilton have never been slow to move with the times and theyve added just a few tweaks to bring it up to date.

Ive become a huge fan of Hamilton and military military watches in general since I bought my Khaki automatic in 2009 also from Watchshop, I might add. Since then, Ive been promising myself the hand wind, and it could be said, more historically authentic version, ever since. Yet, for some strange reason, brand new examples have been and continue to be pretty hard to find in most authorised dealers both here and in the US, so I was extremely pleased to find it in stock at Watchshop complete with supersonic speed delivery so two thumbs up to them on both counts.

At the heart of the Khaki mechanical is the venerable 17 jewel ETA 2804, Swiss made, hand-winding movement. Hamilton and the legendary movement manufacturer ETA S.A. are nowadays both part of the Swatch Group, along with brands such as Omega and Longines, who also get their movements via ETA. The movement is a joy with a lovely, buttery smoooth winding action. Once you experience the morning ritual of winding a watch, youll begin to get an insight into why the majority of very high end watchmakers continue to offer manual wind watches theyre so much more interactive than automatics - and if youre at all into watches, youll appreciate why the miniature engineering miracle of a hand-wind movement can create this kind of Zen mood.

In keeping with its military heritage, this watch is designed to have two main attributes: simplicity and functionality. A nicely finished matt, beadblasted 38mm case, including a solid case back thank goodness - well done Hamilton, and forget about scratches with a slightly domed, just about indestructible sapphire crystal, combine to make a rugged, tough but also a very attractive and comfortable piece of kit. The dial and hands are supremely legible, even in low light conditions, with precise printing, giving at-a-glance readability. One feature this watch shares with the automatic version - and with all those gorgeous vintage Hamiltons - is a proper sized, chunky crown, perfectly in keeping with the proportions of the case - unlike the puny crowns on so many watches today - and another thing that makes manual winding a real pleasure. In addition, the case has drilled lugs which makes strap changing a breeze. The supplied strap is much too gorgeous to wear every day and original Hamilton replacements are expensive, and is very easy to change yourself, if required. Ive swapped it out for a lovely old vintage pigskin. But thats just me.

Needless to say, the 2804 keeps excellent time - but bear in mind a mechanical watch will not be as accurate as quartz. If you really must have quartz accuracy, Hamilton and Watchshop have that base covered with the Khaki line, too.

The Hamilton is a watch Ive been looking at for some time. I like the military references back to those watches issued to armed forces years ago, like the high contrast face and the shot blasted case. It is larger than they used to be, more modern in size, yet not too big 38mm excluding crown. The eta hand wound mechanical movement is silky smooth and a pleasure to operate. It is very accurate, for a none quartz mechanism and has the reputation of being extremely robust, more so than the automatic variants, which obviously have more moving parts. I wasnt too keen on the canvas strap but that has been quickly and inexpensively rectified, the new brown padded leather strap suits well, allowing the watch to be used both as a sports watch and a dress watch due to its slim proportions it fits under a cuff very easily.
Hamilton watches offer great value for money, belonging to the same Swatch stable as the likes of Omega and Longines but being a fraction of the cost. The build quality looks excellent, way better than most other sub 300 watches I own.
Overall Im well pleased, an impressive piece of time keeping machinery.

Great watch, nice simple military design with clear legible dial. I was after a good quality watch that could be worn daily rather than my older actual military issued watches that I collect.
It has a good strong ETA manual wind movement that has kept time accurately so far, clear slightly domed sapphire crystal and nice subtle wrist presence, just wind in the morning, set and you are ready to go.
All in all a great watch and would recommend if you like the military design or even if you just want a good solid well built timepiece.

The Hamilton Khaki manual wind watch oozes Hamiltons military history. In befitting its vintage styling its slightly smaller than a lot of modern watches at 38mm diameter, but thats a plus point in my book. Some watch manufacturers seem to be in an arms race to make the biggest watch and its getting ridiculous. The watch is very comfortable to wear due to its size and easily slips under a shirt cuff or sleeve.

If you want a good looking, well built and reliable watch with a military pedigree then I highly recommend it.

I did change the strap on mine to a US military style one piece nylon strap, not because theres anything wrong with the original strap - there isnt - I just like the style.

Excellent, well made watch that looks much better in the flesh than in pictures. Having the ETA 2804 handwind movement means its thin and light on my 6.5 inch wrist. Great accuracy straight out of the box. It is +7 seconds a day which Im very happy with. I swapped the strap for a black nylon as I didnt think the original really suited it. Its extremely easy to read at a glance and the display has a slight dome which is nice. All in all Im very happy, and hope that it lasts for a long time. I was deciding between this and the Hamilton Khaki auto and I think I made the right choice.

I like the basic military style of this watch, the case has a non polished sand blasted look and it has a mechanical movement which has to be wound up. Although the watch is a 38mm it feels more like a 40mm, maybe because the lug length is quite long. Although there is nothing wrong with the strap that the watch comes with I have put a NATO strap on my one which really adds to the military look of the watch. All in all this is a great watch with bundles of character from a brand with an interesting history.

I ordered this because I wanted a back to basics watch that was easy to read and was light weight. The strap, as the name suggests, is a light khaki which is leather lined, it very comfortable to wear and stays put on your wrist. The movement is a ETA 2804-2 mechanical which is a reliable and accurate time keeping construction, you wont find this caliber movement in any other watch for this price. The watch also has drilled lugs meaning it is possible to easily change the strap if I waned to in the future. I wanted a mechanical watch beacuse of the act of having to wind my watch in the morning, its not for everyone but some will love the daily connection to their time piece.

Awesome watch and service and at a fair price. Can not fault the service or delivery and this was the only place I could find a black faced version.

This is a lot of watch for the price - grab one whilst theyre still available. Winding the movement is a tactile pleasure - the smooth feel inspires confidence. After only a few days I can already say that accuracy is around 3 seconds a day - well up to standard for a mechanical watch. The strap may not suit everyone but the through-drilled lugs make swapping straps simplicity itself.
