Part II

My JV0000 has now seen active service and I am even more impressed. Wife threatened divorce if I didn't let her use it on most of the dives, so there went my idea about a worthy backup for my comp. Never mind, it did mean she could get all the stats for her PADI logbook at the press of a button without annoying me (and it takes considerably longer to drag the log details out of my VT3). Display is very clear and concise and you don't have to remember to do anything other than strap it to your wrist before you hit the water. Digital display is very easily read in tropical water and the analog display is easy as a guide (bit odd to have it up to 100m - would have preferred a log scale up to 50m - maybe in the next model...) Surface interval time is displayed until 24 hours elapses and you get start time, duration, water temp (still don't care about that) and max depth. Practical and easy to use - perfect!
Only one irritation manifested itself and I can't find anything in the manual - I do not see any way you can disable the ascent alarm. Whilst a very worthy safety feature for diving, it is a total pain in the tonsils if you wear it for snorkelling since it goes "beep beep beep" every time you surface. If anyone knows how to switch it off, please tell me!!!
Casing is actually more robust than I had thought and has survived unscathed apart from, and I'm being very picky here, a few very small scratches on the polished ring round the glass - the rest of the brushed casing is still pristine. I utterly abuse watches on a regular basis (this week mainly falling off my bike), so this is a pleasant surprise.
Another really nice touch (and I'm glad I took the manual on the plane otherwise I would be none the wiser) is the ability to swap the travel timezone and local timezone instantly. No more fiddling.
Highly recommended and even had a few non-divers comment on how nice it looks.
Buy one - you will not be disappointed!

JV0000-10f. I spent hours researching this (which is part of the fun) - wanted a reliable backup for my dive comp, always wanted a watch with a depth gauge, am fed up replacing batteries and my automatic is away for a service so Eco-drive seemed the way to go.
Photos do NOT do this watch justice - it looks way better in the flesh and is easily worn as a casual watch. My wife already has her eyes on it in preference to her very nice blue Orca (BN0016).
Functionality wise this is exactly what any sane diver wants as a backup to a primary computer (assuming you are into deco stops – it’s actually a potential alternative to a comp if you are a meticulous dive planner) - automatic start on dive, max depth, duration and surface interval, max depth and time alarms, ascent speed alarm and logs your last 20 dives. All the rest is a bonus - 3 alarms, travel zones and alternative city times, water temp (never did understand why they bother with that one!). I probably missed a few. Absolutely perfect for diving holidays.
Setting everything is logical and consistent and only takes a few minutes to master. Some of the thought which has gone into the watch is actually very impressive – for example, as the minute hand sweeps over the digital display the current depth display migrates between the bottom and top of the screen and back again to make sure it is always visible. The dive time is just read off of the minute hand 9which resets to 12 when the dive starts), so you don’t need a bezel – a potential life-saver if you are into getting somewhat narked..
The only minor disappointment, and it was minor enough not to stop me buying it, is that I would have liked a manual stopwatch function for annoying non-diving stuff like timing parking meters :-)
Personally I think this is the best looking of the integrated depth watches (I prefer analogue to pure digital and I’m not pretending I can afford a master-compressor) - it actually looks quite sophisticated and a bit "technical", which I think is a good thing, rather than something you can use to bash in tent pegs.
Another personal observation, but one you might find useful if you are looking for a watch to go diving with (as opposed to just a diving watch), is that a lot of watches described as diving watches are not ones I would ever consider (and I include Rolex’s in this camp) for a simple and often overlooked reason – the crown is at the 3 o-clock position which digs into the back of your hand if you have relatively small wrists and the watch is quite big. There are several ways round this – either move the crown (commonly to 4, 5 or 9 o-clock) or do what this watch does and replace everything with nice simple non-protruding buttons (note that since the watch is essentially automatic in diving mode, you really don’t have to press any of the buttons under the water, so even if you are wearing big gloves it is not an issue). This is also presumably why the pretty much identical specification jv0020 is such an odd non-symmetrical shape - it’s just a bit too bizarre for me. The end result is that this watch has a very “clean” look – again, this does not really come out well in the photos.
Arguably it’s not going to be as tough as some of the more macho watches out there and I’m sure the casing will pick up a few scratches when I use it in anger, but I’m prepares to risk that.
So that’s why I bought this one and am very happy so far – diving trip to St Lucia coming up where it will get used in anger!

As a Dive Master this watch is a perfect tool to add to your everyday day life as well as your dive gear. Brilliant display easy to see on day and night dives, easy to read digital display for surface intervals , depth and water temp. To sum it all up excelent all round watch which does not even need a battery! 5/5 rating for me.

Awesome instrument !
Guess diving enthusiasts would appreciate the advanced diving functions, but I bought it for its raw industrial instrument-like look.
I will look BIG on pretty much any wrist.
Its super easy to switch time-zones and it never needs winding.
