Rating: Excellent (5 / 5)
I am firmly in the camp of people who cannot spend a day without a watch on their wrists, so when my old watch broke I thought I would treat myself. This is the first watch I have ever owned that I didnt buy in a hurry and simply for its functionality, and I am not disappointed.
Camden Watch Company is a London based company, which appealed to me, and their vintage railway aesthetic has led them into some seriously fantastic design areas in my opinion.
The packaging is beautiful, and evidently has been thought through in depth to provide an unboxing experience. A letter of thanks and various little bits of documentation are nice, but not necessary, as one of the draws of this watch is its simplicity and elegance. There is no date or day, no multiple dials, just one crown which can set the time and push in to start the watch going.
The CWC offer a year guarantee, which is reassuring, but the watch feels premium and I have no doubt that it will be running well past its warranty.
The attention to detail in design is wonderful, the railway track minute line round the outside is a crisp and clear indicator of time, but also harks back to the design aesthetic, as does the gently octagonal crown.
The bezel stands slightly proud of the brushed steel body, which creates a pleasing set of contours, and the glass over the dial stands slightly above the level of the bezel, which adds to its clean lines and hopefully will not lead to its being more easily damaged. Only time will tell.
The strap is comfortable good quality leather, with the CWC name embossed on the inside, another example of an attention to detail which heartens me.
The sound of the second hand, the only secondary dial on this watch, is almost inaudible even when held to my ear, and the movement, over the short period that I have had the watch, has kept time to a fraction of a second.
Design wise, the purple highlights of this particular model drew me to it, and I have been impressed with the general visibility in low light. the watch has no illumination but the roman numerals are bright and clear and the hands catch any available light to aid their own visibility.
The strap is a 22mm width, and there are no external lug holes. The watch body itself is substantially smaller than my last watch and sits elegantly against my far less elegant wrist. I am enjoying wearing it, and would recommend it - although at present I rather like the feeling of exclusivity it gives me. As far as I am aware the brand is not hugely well known and is only in its second year of existance as far as I can divine.

Although based in the heart of London, The Camden Watch Company was founded by two people with strong ties to the world-renowned timepiece industry of Switzerland. Swiss trained Anneke Short and Swiss native Jerome Robert established The Camden Watch Company to celebrate the rich history of area and reflect it in dynamic watches suitable for every aspect of life in modern day London. The steel cases protect dials that span the history of the wristwatch, encompassing classic roman numerals, distinctive bold typefaces and sleek, contemporary numberless designs, while the straps are made of genuine stitched leather and durable woven fabric to keep the watch stylish and secure without compromising on comfort. Short and Robert have invested all of their extensive industry knowledge into these watches, from the initial design and production to the supply chain and even the market place, taking pride in providing high quality watches at realistic prices.
