Speedo Watches

Speedo Watches is a division of Speedo Swimwear, an Australian company that has become an institution in its field. The company's history began in 1910 under the name McRae Hosiery. Started by a Scot Entrepreneur named Alexander McRae, the firm made underwear in the beginning but expanded into the new field of swimwear in 1914 as McRae Knitting Mills. The name was changed to Speedo in 1928.

At Speedo, everything is dictated by the flow of water. This was one of the first companies in the world to apply scientific research to the concept of swimming, and everything they make is designed to reduce drag and contribute to smooth, flowing motion.

Their watches are shaped like no others, streamlined into oblongs and ovals to cut down on water resistance. Human concepts of design are completely ignored, and the only criterion is that the shape offer as little obstruction as possible. In doing this, Speedo has designed some of the world's most unusual timepieces.

Speedo watches are shaped like bubbles frozen in motion. Their cases are rounded globules with no sharp edges or straight lines. They are sometimes asymmetrical like bits of jelly caught in a current.

On ladies' and children's models, the cases are made of plastic resin and are often translucent, resembling liquids. Speedo knows the appeal of these shapes and maximizes them with vivid colours and contrasts. Vibrant red, blue, green and purple make these watches a visual delight and makes them instantly recognizable.

The men's models have the same fluid lines, but the colours tend to be darker with black providing a pleasing contrast to bright primary colours. The translucent resin of the ladies' and children's models is replaced here by opaque resin.

The kids' models deserve a brief mention. They're great fun with their candy-like shades and cartoon imagery, the fluid shapes used to good advantage for visual appeal. Some parents are going to have watch envy.

Speedo watches are a step out of the ordinary with a look that no other watchmaker has. For a complete departure from the norm, they are highly recommended.
