In recent years, the world of designer watches has seen the rise of upstart companies offering inexpensive watches with unusual, eye-catching designs. Nobody is suggesting that this new breed is going to supplant the great watchmakers of Switzerland or Italy, but that's not the point. These new designers seem to be saying that while there is nothing wrong with elaborate complications and expensive materials, there is room in the world for more than this.

Rubz Watches represents this new ethic taken to its ultimate extreme. This company sells multi-packs of inexpensive plastic watches, but they're not just toys. The products of Rubz Watches have quartz movements and will perform accurately and dependably. They also look fantastic with bodies and straps of silicon rubber in eye-popping hues and designs that could have come from an old sci-fi movie.

These watches are deliberately low-end. They have no tourbillons or minute repeaters, and there is a noticeable lack of gold and jewels. When you buy a pack of Rubz watches, you get two to four watches of the same design in different colours. The watches have a fun, funky look, and since they're so inexpensive, they can be worn anywhere without worry. You can switch the colours according to your mood or wear all of them at once for an outrageous look.

Designs are casual and unpretentious. For instance, one popular item from Rubz is a four-pack of rubber watches.
