Quartz watches are the most common type of modern watch, and are bowered by an internal battery. Batteries generally last 2 - 3 years in watches, however it is entirely dependant on the type of movement in the watch and usage of any special functions (e.g. using the Indiglo function repeatedly in a Timex watch can wear down the battery slightly quicker). The benefit of quartz watches is convenience - they are accurate, reliable and cost effective. The only drawback is having to get the battery changed every few years, plus some of the charm of owning an automatic watch or mechanical watch is lost for watch enthusiasts.
