Pocket watches generally come in two varieties: open faced or hunter. The hunter has a case which closes over the watch to protect its face. There are two varieties of hunter pocket watches: half hunter and full hunter. A half hunter pocket watch allows you to view the time without opening the case, by way of a glass front.
Although pocket watches have largely been superseded by wrist watches, people still wear them today and they are often given as wedding gifts.
