Gola Watches

Gola Watches is a division of the Gola brand, one of the world's leading makers of sportswear. Beginning in 1905 as a maker of sportsman's boots, Gola has had its ups and downs. It distinguished itself in World War II by making footwear for the British military, and despite various setbacks through the years, has always managed to return to the forefront of the industry. It survives today as a designer of unique, attractive clothing and accessories priced for the average pocketbook. Gola takes attractive designer looks and puts them within the budget of the average consumer.

Gola Watches represent an effort to recapture the flash and colour of the 1980s in a line of playful, brilliantly-coloured watches. While the company likes to emphasize the retro aspect of the line, the watches certainly don't look old-fashioned.

In fact, the candy-like colours, thick rubber straps and sleek, rounded cases look decidedly up-to-date. Wide bezels surround brightly-hued faces with the oversized Gola logo prominently displayed. Unabashedly vibrant blues, reds, greens, golds and whites make these watches anything but subdued.

Gola Watches are all unisex, and ladies and gents alike will love wearing these fun, fascinating pieces of pop art. There is a democratic air about these creations, seeming to say that great watches are not just for the cocktail party or the board room, but for the street as well. This is pop art for the masses, made of materials seen everyday. Some models have cases of stainless steel while others are made of plastic. They seem to be a statement to the effect that great watches don't have to be loaded down with gold and jewels. These are the materials of our world, beautiful and affordable.

Both digital and analogue models are well-represented in this line. The analogue models have large, prominent hour markers without numerals. The dials have standard arrangement with central axes, and some models have date windows. Straps are stitched leather, rubber or fabric, their colours echoing those of the watches and completing the compositions. Digital models have either display windows or LED readouts.

Some designer watches look like they belong in museums. The watches of Gola are quite the opposite, made for real life and the real people who live it. They seem to say that dignity is a waste of time, and whimsy is more fun anyway. Looking at their wonderful, fun watches, one could hardly argue.
