Citizen Ecodrive Watches

The light enters the watch through the face and charges a rechargeable ecodrive battery, which can hold its store for many months. This provides the ultimate convenience in a Citizen watch: never to have to change a battery. As well as the Ecodrive models, we also sell a large selection of quartz models. Citizen Ecodrive Watches

The Citizen Eco-Drive from Citizen Watches is a technological triumph, a light-powered watch with a battery that lasts a lifetime. It was the first watch to be awarded the Japan Environment Association's Eco Mark for environmentally friendly products, and it is a small but significant step toward a future of renewable energy sources.

This is just one of the many triumphs for this firm which has always exemplified the design sophistication and technical ability of Japan.

The Citizen Watch company is descended from the Shokosha Watch Research Institute, founded in Tokyo in 1924. Citizen was the name of its first product, a pocket watch that was intended to be owned by ordinary citizens the world over.

Throughout its history, the company has been an innovator. In 1956, it introduced the first shock resistant Japanese watch, an achievement followed in 1959 by the first water resistant model.

In the Eco-Drive watches, there is a solar panel behind the dial. Light from any source will generate electricity which is stored in a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with a capacity of six months to five years depending on the model. This battery can be recharged indefinitely and never needs to be replaced.

A wide range of styles are available, from the larger men's models with chronograph feature to the smaller, more petite ladies' models. Citizen's design avoids gaudy colours and uses the mellow, polished tones of the metal for composition. Stainless steel and gold plating combine to make pleasing, harmonious colour schemes surrounding tastefully conservative dials.

The full range of features is available, with various models displaying chronograph features, date windows and dual time. The men's models are quite substantial, averaging over 40 millimetres in width. Ladies' models have curved or rectangular dials in slender compositions using gold and silver tones to great advantage.

While ostentation is not a goal here, there are occasional touches of bling from baguette diamonds used sparingly on some of the ladies' models. This company places precision and quality above trendiness, an attitude that many customers find appealing. Other watchmakers may put on a good show, but Citizen Watches backs it up with substance.
