Breo Watches

Some watch designers have been around for a long time, and they have a tradition to live up to. Newcomers are less concerned with tradition, preferring to make names for themselves as iconoclasts and classics of the future. Breo is one proud member of this group. This company is relatively new and has already demonstrated that looking like everybody else just isn't on the agenda. They sell flip-flops, sunglasses, stereo headphones and a wide range of other products in addition to their watches, and most of their creations have a futuristic, exuberant and unique look.

Vividly coloured rubber and plastic predominate among these watches. Some models have round bezels resembling portholes while others have square dials with heavy bezels, rather like picture frames.

Some of the bracelets are just loose rings of rubber that grow into the watch body, the dial a digital window. Those with conventional dials tend to be quite substantial, 35 millimetres or more in width. Their size plus the thick, spongy quality of the rubber gives them a delightfully toy-like quality.

The Breo sport watches, on the other hand, have wide cases of stainless steel on heavy straps of silicon links. The bezels are crenelated and marked in five-second increments, the crowns protected from impact by a crown guard. As always, the shades are brilliant and will certainly draw stares. These are heavy watches, and their blue, green, red and purple hues are absolute eye candy.

Not wishing to become type-cast, Breo has shown a lot of variety in their watch designs. Some of the analogue dials are unmarked while others have big, bold hour markers. In the Roam and Venture models, thick, spongy bracelets grow into bulbous bodies with digital readouts, and the digital display is so narrow that the hour appears above the minutes. In contrast, the Spectrum, Cube and Luminex models have wide cases on heavy rubber straps.

With all the variety in their lines, the underlying theme of Breo Watches is fun, whimsy and imagination. These are watches for those who like to stand out, perhaps in a playful way.

In marked contrast to most of their other products, Breo also makes the Vitoria line of watches, which has pieces of a more serious, businesslike appearance. Of course, we can depend on Breo to surprise us with a bit of normality occasionally.
